WWW Details

WWW is centered around families attending church together, and around the concept that all parents should have the ability to attend worship without fear of their child’s safety and emotional well-being.  As a consequence, WWW provides:

Specialized child care/instruction while parents attend Sunday School and/or Worship.   A certified educator and two trained aides are on hand to educate and care for children on the spectrum during Sunday School hours (9:30 – 10:45).  These same instructors staff our worship hour and children’s church, from 11:00 until 12:30.  Parents are encouraged to worship with their children until the Word for Children (about 15 minutes into the service), although alternate care will be provide if that is not an option.

Wednesday night programming. A certified educator and two aides will be on staff from 6 – 8 to provide care and instruction for children with autism.   Children’s Choir, under the leadership of Glinda Blackshear, practices from 6 – 6:30;  supper begins at 6:30.  Youth and children’s programming begins at 7, with Adult Sanctuary Choir practice starting at 7:15.  Families will have the option of attending any of these functions; in addition, space will be provided for a possible parental support group.

In addition, because it is often difficult for parents with children on the spectrum to find day care, Covenant provides the following:

Once a month respite care, modeled on a “Parent’s Night Out.”  This consists of four hours of specialized child care for children with ASD; there will likely be a nominal charge, the amount of which has not been determined.  The care is staffed by a certified educator and trained aides.

The first respite care night will be Saturday, October 10, 2009.  Times to be determined after that.

You can see a Schedule of all Covenant activities here.
