Dr. Richard Olson was born in Wichita, Kan., but moved to the Seattle, Wash. area when he was 10. He received a bachelor’s degree in Zoology at the University of Washington, a master’s degree in Biology from Eastern Washington University, and a Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering at Texas A&M University. Rick spent 14 years as a research biologist in Virginia, Colorado and Mississippi before heeding God’s call to the ordained ministry and enrolling in Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., where he received a Masters of Divinity.
He comes to Covenant from First Presbyterian Church of Gold Beach, Oregon, where he served as solo pastor.
Rick is married to Pam Olson, who is a Family Advocate/Family Support Specialist for South Coast Head Start. She is an accomplished quilter and poet, and loves to sing in church choirs. They have two children; Emily is a senior at the University of Washington and Mike is a freshman at Portland State University.

Glinda Blackshear has been the Choir Director at Covenant Presbyterian Church since April of 1994. In addition to her work with the children and adults at Covenant, she is a Vocal/Choral Instructor at Shelton State Community College. Her award-winning concert choir, the Shelton Singers, joined the Covenant Sanctuary Choir in April 2005 to perform the Faure Requiem with chamber orchestra at Covenant. She is president of the Alabama Choral Directors Association (AL-ACDA) and active in the Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). In 2000 she was selected Outstanding College Faculty Person for the state two-year college system. Her husband, Dr. Alan Blackshear, is a composer who has written more than a dozen arrangements and compositions for Covenant’s Sanctuary Choir.
